Mercury Retrograde: Aquarius 10

Let’s give Mercury retrograde periods a new vibe. It appears that there is a layer of doom and gloom with these transits that becomes a catch all for anything that went wrong. Rather than lay blame and whine about it, I’m proposing a truce with the winged messenger. 

On January 14th through February 3rd the planet mercury will appear as though it is retracing its path. It is an optical illusion from our view on earth, and a reciprocal shift in lenses from our perspective consciousness. This is a cyclic occurrence that will be the first of four episodes in the year 2022. 

The initiatory phase will begin in the sign of Aquarius on the 10th degree with a close conjunction of Saturn a mere three degrees away. Imagine a quick silvered lightning bolt contained within a solidified boundary. Or a piece of antiquated technology encased within astounding masonry and architecture. I sense this time will be very charged with potential for productive revelation or anxiety should the energy not be properly processed. 

It is almost counterpoint to look at a retrograde phase in such a high voltage state, yet this could also mean rapid cognition and digestion. We might ‘get it’ and move forward more quickly, just be careful to not overlook the essential nutrients.

Projecting an ideal image only to face reality that it was a false illusion of Self is what we’re dealing with and its now time to make peace. Thank mercury for this moment of clear reflection so that we may shed this pretense of who and what we are. Getting real has never meant more than right now. This is a time for true Self-revelation!

CAPRICORN NEW MOON

JANUARY 2ND 2022

This is a very potent day of the year. The seeds you plant now will be germinating and coming to fruition throughout the entire span of 2022. 

With the New Moon in Capricorn, we can embrace reality and get down to the nuts and bolts of what 2022 is all about. There is a distinct tone of self- responsibility, building structure, boundaries, material organization and time management with Saturn’s presence taking a front seat. 

The danger with a Saturn overlayed moon is that it may feel oppressive when limitations are put in place. We could experience moodiness of an apathetic variety, much like a wet blanket. Leaving a static, cagey sense of isolation and confinement which inherently brings us down…and that’s exactly what you’re meant to do. That tail on the sea goat is trying to tell you something!

If you are prone towards depression and loneliness, stuck in a dark state of mind, feeling pessimistic and uninspired, take a moment to get in touch with what is at the root, or the tail in this case. What’s under the surface will find a way to be expressed. So be honest with yourself and you’ll discover what’s been keeping you from loving life lately. Let the emotions lead you to the depths of your shadow and reveal what these powerful archetypal moods are teaching you. A way to do this could be through journaling, doodling, painting or just following little nudges that quietly offer a new way of seeing. 

It’s extremely important to address these thoughts and emotions to clear the channel for a clean reset on the New Moon. By doing so you will align with a healthier way of approaching the new year, without bringing forward all that drag in your momentum. Work with the energy of compression as you become dedicated to meaningful productivity. The way out from under the tension is going into the narrow canal. You can choose to resist or hunker down and guide yourself through with intense focus.   

The Capricorn New Moon forms a trine aspect to Uranus in Taurus. This has a ground lightning sort of effect, as energy discharges an impulsion through the fixed earth sign, being sure to infuse our new moon intentions with a fresh perspective in the material realm. 

The Sabian symbol for 10 degrees Taurus is “A Red Cross Nurse”. With Uranus here we can have empathy for ourselves and others while going through difficult phases of our moods. Sometimes this means going into the darkness before bringing back our love for life to the rest of the world. 

Neighboring the New Moon in the sign of Capricorn is a complimentary position of Venus conjunct Pluto, bringing an intense process of deconstruction within our relationship to Self and others. This is an amazing time to bring clarity from the underworld about our deepest desires and fears in this area.  

I will briefly mention that the New Moon is also forming a square aspect to Mars in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces. You may be challenged by the conflicting messages coming from the ‘Idealist in Action’ and ‘Mystic Dreamer’. Better to go with the flow of Capricorn on this one and not entertain the call to escape from responsibilities on Neptune’s galactic boat or to get caught up in Mar’s charge forward into idealistic drift.
